1. Choose something comfortable. If you are wearing something that you do not feel comfortable in, more than likely, that will show in your photos. You don’t want your photos to show you looking uncomfortable!
2. Avoid tight fitted tops or dresses. Sometimes those pieces can work, but most of the time, they will show all the imperfections and they can be hard to photograph well in. When you choose shirts and dresses that are flowy, it gives more movement in your photos which always looks amazing! Not to mention, it also gives more options for posing, which is always a bonus.
3. Add color but avoid neon. Pops of color add life to your photos giving them a nice visual appearance, especially when they complement your eyes, hair and skin tone. Neon colors tend to reflect on your face and skin, causing them to look strange when photographed. Colors that photograph well are jewel tones, neutrals or pastels. Use this list to help you pick the right colors for your skintone!
4. Texture is fun and unique! Adding materials like leather, sequins, fur and lace give a nice texture to your photos and look really nice, especially when paired well together.
5. Avoid large patterns. Large patterns can be distracting in photos and take away from your beautiful face. Solids are best, but small patterns can be okay as well.
6. Accessorize. Bring along a favorite hat, knit blanket, meaningful necklace to add a little something extra to your photos. Don’t forget to coordinate shoes either! I also recommend choosing a heel or wedge shoe, these help elongate your legs.
7. Add Layers. Layers not only add dimension, give some different posing options. Layers also allow you to add variety to your pictures. A jean jacket can be removed to give a “new look” to the outfit you already have on. Options for layering can be flannels, jackets, vests, cardigans.
8. Showcase your personality and hobbies. (Get ideas Here) Bring along your letterman jacket, sports gear, uniforms, anything that shows what you love to bring out your personality. Afterall, that is what these pictures are for!
9. Stay true to your style. Don’t pick something that you wouldn’t normally wear. You want your senior photos to reflect YOU. Avoid going with styles that are trending, you want to pick outfits that are timeless and classic, so when you look back on your photos, you will still love them!
10. Try on your outfits ahead of time. Especially if you buy your outfits online. You may think you know your size, but sizing can vary from brand to brand, so be sure to make sure they fit well and look the way you want. This also helps you properly prepare the proper undergarments.
